This past week, Sixty West Funds Sponsored Understanding Opportunity Zones in Nevada, a day long conference exploring the impact of Opportunity Zones on the state economy and local communities.  The event was organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development, and the State Department of Business and Industry.

Sixty West Funds Managing Director Mike Ballard spoke during “The TANK” panel discussion. The panel allowed representatives of Opportunity Zone funds to both educate and field questions, present their philosophy, and review qualified projects. Mike is a Nevada resident and expert on the regional economy, tax compliant alternatives, and opportunity zone and real estate-based development. Mr. Ballard is also the Manager of the Sixty West Crescent Opportunity Fund.

Additional topics of discussion included:

+         What do we know about Opportunity Zones and how they will work?

+         What types of investments will be feasible through Opportunity Funds?

+         How can local and state partners prepare for and engage with this new tool?

+         What roles can different sectors play to ensure that low-income communities’ benefit from and participate in the economic growth and development generated by Opportunity Zones and Funds?

The conference was held on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 at the City of Las Vegas Council Chambers located at 495 South Main Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
